Trillian Chat Software Gets Upgrade

Software That Unifies Instant Messaging Offers New Tricks

Trillian, a handy chat client that lets you bring your buddy lists from separate instant messenger clients into one combined shell, has recently been upgraded.

Created by Cerulean Studios, this latest version features a new interface, proxy support, skinning tweaks, new emoticons, and sounds. Also included are AOL Instant Messenger-specific tools such as viewable buddy icons and direct connections for sharing and transferring files.
Though this release doesn’t break new ground for chat client software, it’s a worthwhile download for people who frequently use several instant messaging programs to chat with friends, colleagues, and family members.

The new interface features a sleeker appearance, enhanced by a Windows XP-like look and feel. While the earlier version had bolder, blocky icons, the newer version is easier on the eyes. The interface is skinnable, but thereŒs a dearth of choices, at least for the time being. As Trillian catches on, expect to see new themes.

The new version of Trillian supports the four major IMs: AIM, MSN, Yahoo! Messenger, and ICQ. Most people who use IM regularly know the routine: Right-click on a contact or a message window to send an invitation to chat. If most of your buddy contacts are on AOLŒs AIM or MicrosoftŒs MSN Messenger, Trillian allows you to invite all of them to talk in the same window.
