I also have afew usernames in use on windows live messenger and it did work fine on one of them but i think this was due to the temporary files that messenger stores in the "C:\Documents and settings\Username\Application Data" and "C:\Documents and settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data" folders as when i deleted the messenger related files in these folders i noticed that the account that was working fine before had the same problems as all my other accounts
. I have emailed messenger tech support i will let you know if they give me a solution but i doubt that i will be able to get one as i think it is something they have to fix on their end.
