AIM Triton installs in the same shared location as AOL Explorer, AOL Suite, AOL Spyware Protection and other AOL software. This is AOL's new platform.
Every time you run any application, like AIM Triton, the platform's update mechanism is also loaded. This tool checks to see if there are updates to any software that you have installed (not just what you are running).
If, for example, you are running AOL Triton and there is an update for AOL Suite (perhaps this is the core services mentioned in the post), then you will see the message informing you of the update.
If you don't want to receive updates for some of the AOL products, you can uninstall them by going to the control panel, then selecting add or remove programs and finally look for a program name that starts with "AOL Uninstaller". Click on Change/Remove and follow the UI. From there you should be able to uninstall the portions you dont want.
Hope this helps,
