BigBlueBall IM Podcast #011

Podcast #011 is ready to download!Show Notes
  • Messenger for Mac 6.0 Released
Unfortunately, no A/V support yet, but it does have something WLM doesn't have -- spellchecking.
  • Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger/Mac Messenger federation officially goes live. While it's been available for a couple months, it's now officially out of beta.
  • Popular Windows Live Messenger team member and blogger Leah is leaving Microsoft, and heading to California. She made the MessengerSays blog worth bookmarking, and we wish her good luck in her new endeavor.
  • Google Talk is now open to anyone. Previously only available if you had a Gmail or Google "hosted email" account, you can now register and use Google Talk using any valid email account. Gtalk fan site Customize Talk reports that a new beta version with minor changes is available to download.
  • Could Jajah Mobile be the killer VOIP app? It lets you place international calls using a support mobile phone for free (or nearly free).
  • Are you a developer or software tester interested in instant messaging? Instant messaging newcomer Izimi is looking for top-notch programmers and testers.
  • Finally, we have a special surprise from BigBlueBall member PolarbearNPR -- an a cappella rendition of The BigBlueBall Song.
We're looking for your help! We are going to begin a monthly feature where we talk with the people behind the scenes of the IM industry -- programmers, product managers, and visionaries. Post a reply and let us know who you'd want to hear from.

Music by Brian Weidemann.

Be sure to share your feedback here in the forums, and remember that you can post an audio question via our Skype voicemail.
