It's cool to see the diagrams in the actual patent application. But I am VERY disappointed that third-party apps can't run in the background. What's the point of IM if it's only "running" when it's filling your screen? Pretty much everyone I know loads IM, then minimizes it (sends it to the background) and does other work. They only bring IM into focus when they are in the middle of a conversation, and very often those also take place in a semi-asynchronous style, with lots of multi-tasking going on.
