I don't think it's rude, considering it's highly likely. There is little reason to ever test the use of Windows
Server 2003 on a portable device, and furthermore installing Windows Live Messenger on it.
Unless you are a Microsoft employee. (testing a 5-year old platform, and coming to a third-party website instead of contacting the internal WLM team, or referring to the documentation)
I did give you suggestions that will likely lead you in the right direction, though. If you are not familiar with the security policies, then perhaps you would benefit from using Windows XP.
