Hmmm - that's slightly concerning. Security software not functioning
can be a symptom of a virus/trojan on a system (but it does not always mean this). Ad-aware and Spybot are generally not perceived as being able to remove the majority of threats these days.
Please download and install
SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition (free edition)
- Load SUPERAntiSpyware and click the Check for Updates button.
- Once the update has finished, exit SUPERAntiSpyware. Please do NOT run a scan yet!
IMPORTANT: Do
NOT open any other windows or programs while SUPERAntiSpyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process.
- Open SUPERAntiSpyware and click the Scan your Computer button.
- Check Perform Complete Scan and then click Next.
- SUPERAntiSpyware will now scan your computer and when it’s finished it will list all the infections it has found.
- Make sure that they all have a check next to them, and then click Next.
- Click Finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
- It could be possible that it will ask you to reboot your computer in order to delete some files after reboot to complete the removal process.
A full scan is fairly long and may take a couple of hours. It may or may not find anything, but if not, we can feel better about malware being a culprit. MBAM not running still concerns me slightly, but this is my personal 2nd choice program I use for spyware/malware removal and it is widely recommended these days.
If the scan runs successfully, please then try the repair of WLM through Add/Remove programs and see what happens.
If you are unable to run SuperAntiSpyware please do not bother with the repair of WLM yet and let me know.
(FYI the icon in the system try for SuperAntiSpyware is a little "bug" or "beetle" which you can use to open the program.)
