Free Webcam Software for Windows XP

If you use XP and want to setup a webcam like the one here at BigBlueBall, check out this FREE webcam software from Microsoft. It's called Timershot.

Timershot is one of several of the Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP. It lets you use your webcam to capture and save images at a regular, timed interval. You can save the images to your local drive, or to any connection in your network neighborhood (including FTP or web shares).

Here's the full configuration screen:

So am I ready to throw out CoffeeCup WebCam (my current webcam software)? No, not yet. Timershot is definately an entry-level webcam application.

But if you're just getting started, or just want to mess around with some webcam software for free, it's worth a look.
