AIM Pro Targets Business IMers

AOL has officially launched it's free, corporate instant messaging program, AIM Pro. The program was developed in conjunction with WebEx and is designed to leverage the collaboration and meeting features offered by WebEx.

Analysis firm The Radicati Group says that 135 million workers consider IM a key collaboration tool, and that figure is expected to reach 477 million in the next three years.

AIM Pro provides a stream-lined, more business-oriented interface with SSL encryption when sending messages between two AIM Pro users. In addition, instead of picking an AIM screenname, AIM Pro users can choose to use an email address, a key feature request from many businesses.

Like the consumer-oriented AIM, AIM Pro connects with AIM, ICQ and iChat users. It's available as a free download from AOL's website.

Although AIM Pro is targeted primarly at business users, it's available to anyone and many people looking for a more professional tool might find it a good alternative to the regular AIM program.

Good idea but....

Yeah I tried AIM Pro... glad it did'nt install over AIM 5.9 or Triton. I love the no ads thing and it does seem cleaner and scrisper than Triton... but no buddy icons. That may seem like no big deal, but when they came out in '99, I fliped. I love icons/avatars and not being able to use them in AIM Pro just ruined it for me

buddy icons

I just dl'd Aim Pro at work about a week ago. Visually, I like it better than any of the other AIMs. I've been searching online all morning for instructions on how to add a buddy icon. Are you absolutely certain there's no way? That is so weird. Design flaw......
