Hi, I changed my aim password and forgot the password (didnt save it locally or even write it down). Anyways, I am trying to find a new screen name and when I type in screen names into AIM it gives me the following errors:
1.) "The screen name or password you entered is not valid." 2.) "The password you entered is not valid. Note: If you have a stored password and have recently changed it, you will need to re-enter it on the Sign On screen." 3.) "Suspended account" I would assume that the first one (1) means that no one currently uses the screen name and should be available, the second response means the account is active and the third one is no longer usuable (try typing "Tommy" or "ABA" in with any password). Now, when I goto www.aim.com and try to register a screen name that received the first response, it tells me that it is already taken. Anyone know a better way of registering screen names? Does Netscape.com still have a register AIM SN webpage? |

Can you explain what you mean when you say you're trying to "find a new screen name?" If you are creating a brand-new screen name, you shouldn't get these messages.
You can setup a new screen name here. Screen names must contain from 3-16 letters and numbers, and they must begin with a letter. You cannot use spaces when you create a screen name. Passwords must contain 4-16 letters or numbers. The messages you describe above would be if you're trying to login to an existing screen name, but have the wrong information. If you've lost your password, you can request an email reminder. This only works if the email address you provided when you initially setup your AIM screen name is still valid. If it's not, you are out of luck. |

Jeff, thanks for the prompt reply.
I tried to log in to random screen names with the wrong password not to get access but to see if the screen name was still in use. If I get the message, "The screen name or password you entered is not valid" I am assuming (hopefully correctly) that the screen name is in the 6 months waiting list so that I can get it. What I am trying to do is the equivilant to squating domains. I changed my password on a screen name late at night and in the morning forgot it (didnt write it down or anything). I registered the screen name with a Juno email address when Juno was sending people floppies in the mail and you had to dialup to retrieve the email. I am guessing it was 7-8 years ago when I used that email address. I tried to reregister the Juno email address but I get error messages. Is there any way of knowing when the 6 months is over so I can register a dropped screen name? |
