AIM losing connection

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and wondering even more if anyone knows how this problem can be fixed.

Recently AIM has been loosing it's connection (this past week or so). My internet connection has not had any problems though. I am going through my school's (college) connection. No one else is having this problem though. I have even been downloading things while AIM signs off and then back on, so I know it's not the physical conneciton. Here is what happens.

I will be on-line and after some random interval of time (I haven't been able to pin it to any other action happening on my computer) I will loose connection to AIM. However, sometimes AIM will not realize it has lost it's connection right away. What I mean by this is if I'm chatting with someone when I don't have connection, messages I'm sending and messages the other person is sending will seem to go through but don't make it to the other person. If I have lost connection and I try to send so someone I don't have a window open to yet, when I press enter to send a message it will just simply no move up to the top screen. I can check to see If I have connection or not by checking somone's profile/away message. If I don't have connection it will just say "please wait..." and not come up with anything. At that point I will close it and re-open AIM. I have it on auto-reconnect so when it does realize that it has lost connection it will reconnect.

Two or Three times It has given me an "error code 3." I believe that's what it said. Any help would be appreciated.

What do you mean go under Preferences and Connection?

Do you mean the connection button in preferences under the the sign on/off catagory? And what is there to do there? Auto configure? I've tryed that before and it didn't work.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Alana, I"ll have to give that a try. Does anyone know where I can get AIM version 5.1.3036? I started to look but I need to go to class so I'll look again later but a link would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well ,I found the version so no one has to bother with a link. I'm downloading it right now but thinking about it I suspect the problem won't fix itself because I tried to use Trillian before and had the same problem with AIM through that. ICQ seemed to work fine through it though. *shrug*

Thanks alana, but it didn't work. I'm still searching for an answer though. So, if anyone has an idea, it's welcome.

Actually Alana, it did the same thing once but has been fine since then. So either it stopped or it doesn't do it as often. Either way, it's "better." Thanks again.
