Connection problem w/ AIM

For some reason my AIM won't remain connected for long periods of time. It randomly disconnects for no apparent reason. I usually cannot stay connected for more than say two hours at a time, but lately it disconnects about every 20-30 minutes.

The error message that comes up is the generic "Connection lost. Check your Internet connection." I am like 100% sure my internet connection is not the problem since I am on a university connection, which is always on. Some more proof that it is not an interruption in my connection is that once in a while it will occur when I am downloading something or while playing an online game, and even though my AIM disconnects, the download/games are not interrupted.

I am using Windows XP, connect thru a univ. connection, and use AIM 5.2.3292. I also use ZoneAlarm as my firewall, but AIM is checked off on all counts as something to allow access.

Thanks
Any help would be appreciated.

ive had the same problem for a couple of months now. ive tried everything. ive noticed that aim 5.1.3036 is the best version to use because it keeps you connected for long than you are now. you can try that if you want. but other than that, i have no idea whats wrong.

Thanks for the tips guys but I used to have the same problems with some of those older versions as well. This really sucks as it gets annoying to be cut off 2 or 3 times in a middle of a conversation.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks again in advance.

I heard it was because of the router.. and it only happens to people with a high speed connection such as cable or dsl. (Universitys have high speed ethernet..i know that) But alot of my friends have that problem.. it will sign them off then sign them right back on after about 10 minutes. And they would still be away and idle. Its weird cuz i have a cable connection and a router but that has NEVER happened to me. Maybe it has to do with a wireless router? IM me if u need anymore help.. CraziiWhiteBoi
