AOL and AIM at the same time..problems

Hey...I've been having a problem for awhile now and i'm finally going to try and commit and fix it. Alright, about half a year ago i got isdn to replace my regular 56k connection (works fine) As soon as i got the isdn up and running and started using aim i could no longer connect with certain people and it's because of my router (i think.) Now that's something i can deal with but recently i replaced my isp and got aol 9.0 for broadband. it actually performs better despite it's other problems...one of them being me running aol and aim at the same time. this is what i'm really trying to fix. If i'm on aol which i usually just leave on and i sign onto aim my aim capabilities are hindered. for example i can't connect with pretty much anyone or play the new games in 5.5 Is there any way to fix this? All i want to do is be able to surf the internet and not have to go through the ordeal of closing aol just to send my friend a picture on aim or play a game with them. wouldn't you think aol would have done something by now like made the integrated instant messenger in aol better so it comes close to comparing to aim or just considered the problems people have when trying to run aol and aim at the same time(or is it just me?) it just really sucks that when i have my aol open which is almost all the time and the few people i can connect with without aol open gets cut down to almost nothing and that i can't enjoy the new games...so to sum it all up

Is there any fix that will allow me to run both aol and aim at the same time without screwing aim up(i.e. no direct connections, games and other little things) ????

i used to have this problem years ago with an earlier version of aim. i had to change something under the direct connect and talk settings but i dont see it there. maybe try messing with the firewall settings in there.

Most people with routers have this problem. I have a router and have only been able to play an AIM game with a friend 1 or 2 times out of around 20 tries. I so far dont think that there is a simple solution to this, but you should also check your firewall and turn that off when you try to play a game.
