SECURITY ALERT: AIM-PLUS

They are dead already. That particular company was affiliated to spawned.com and lop.com which are known to be engaged in illegal activities which is why the site was been taken down.

Besides the program was known to be laden with spyware.

The particular company is questionable and an aim-program like this could be putting users at risk. The story on the news page does not warn users about this and and the story itself is not accurate either. "The new version " - Evidence suggests that this is a new company

I donīt think you guys are talking the same language here.

Please WhiteMateria note that lostinfo is talking about AIM Plus and you are talking about AIM +. You might logically think they are the same, but actually they are not!!!

One is this one: http://www.big-o-software.com , and the other one is http://aim-plus.com , as you already noticed, the last site is not working at all, as lostinfo made us notice.

Bad reviews of AIM Plus were already reported by members http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/to...?TOPIC_ID=9353 , I guess it wasnīt removed yet so people could share the experience with the program. I donīt mean to be rude but you could have posted your opinion in that recent topic, and not start a new one.

This forum is about AIM, there is a Sugestions Box forum where you can post your sugestions about the site and I am sure they will be listened promptly.

Note aim-plus does contains spyware.

As i said in my original post aim-plus is associated with illegal activites thats why it has not been see on cnet or elswhere and the site has removed by the host.

Of course you will find refenerces to the well established aim+ but these are not the same programs

Heh... My bad!

I have never even heard of AIM Plus... I guess I just have a nack for staying away from truely bad AIM plugins. As of this total format and reinstall today I have done away with anything involving an OFFICIAL AIM client or add-on for it. Trillian or gaim is just where its at! I'm tired of the bull**** AOL/AIM both pull on its customers/users. I stop there OSP long time ago and have been so freakin happy with my cable its not even funny and now AIM is getting the boot as well. Let them drown in their on misery of poorly planned and developed ideas for how they feel connectivity to the Internet should work - or doesn't. As for the direct connection or file send issue let email handle it instead. Those who don't to email what they wanna send... TOUGH ****! No new feature of AIM will get me to go back. On that note out goes DeadAIM who sold out to AOL as well.

As for anyone using AIM 5.5 you know where the removal of bloatware topic is and below are 2 of the patches to get rid of the ads. As for myself even those things make AIM unbearable to use just the fact that I have to set them up that way. I will upload a HOSTS file soon so that you can block out the doubleclick.com servers.

on aimutation forums someone posted a lot of info about them:

Quote:
quote:Aim-plus have been around since 1999. Back then they were known as

AIM-PLUS SYSTEMS PTE LTD

they had nothing to do with aim progs but

"provides Information Technology consultancy and education services, Software application development, customization and implementation, Internet, Intranet and Extranet, and IT projects outsourcing/subcontracting".

There old contact info was

AIM-PLUS SYSTEMS PTE LTD
10 Toh Guan Road #02-06 Tower Block TT International Tradepark Singapore 608838
Tel: (65) 8626908 Fax: (65)8626890

E-mail: aim-plus@aim-plus.com
Sales Contact : James Ung

This firm closed down, and the domain has now been acquired by lop.com who are eager to get there revenge against aimutation!!!!!!

[Aim-plus may contain spyware/ hackware / aim password stealers]

Anyone whos download aim-plus ought to change their aim password!!!!!!!!!!

As i have posted earlier do not download aim-plus it is associated with various illegal activities and the program itself could contain all sorts of hacks and aim password stealers.

Aim-plus have mysteriously decided to change their address for their domain to France as investigators dawn in on them.

Aim Plus
Pobox 113
Rou De Ital
Pontiers, FR346
FR

The important clue to aim-plus’s illegal background is that whois info on the domain reveals the Nameserver for the domain aim-plus is spawnet.com.

Spawnet.com is a well known spyware affiliate and an illegal software distributor. It is known to be affiliated to LOP.com (a known spy-ware firm), C2media (yet another spyware firm) for more also proof check out:

alex.spawnet.com/~mp3sound/

[Notice the spawnet.com] This is proof of their illegal status.

LOP has in the past approached aimutation to accept a deal in which they would pay 0.6 pay 545 Studios Ptl Ltd to offer a free version of AIMutation with a bundled version the C2 Media spyware known as Lop.com.

This was rejected at the time and have now come back to haunt aimutation. See the news from the time below:

"Lop.com ( google: lop.com ) in the last few days attempted to pay 545 Studios Ptl Ltd. 0.6 cents per user to offer a free version of AIMutation with a bundled version the C2 Media spyware known as Lop.com.

After careful consideration we chose to REJECT the offer set forth my lop.com (namely: Alex at lop.com ) They claimed to own over 50 software distribution websites as well as the rights to the software known as Messenger Plus. ( msgplus.net )

We rejected the offer after trying to aquire a list of websites that distribute software for the lop.com spyware. but was denied such a list.

AIMutation will continue to sell for $2.95 SPYWARE FREE."

So really we have no idea what these people own, what spyware they have on our computers, what programs they own the copyright for, and who they actually are. Hmm...sounds suspicious. It is said above they own the rights for Messenger Plus. Well...AIM Plus, Messenger Plus...coincidence...I think not. I would seriously think twice about downloading anything from sites as nice as the ones for "AIM Plus" and "Messenger Plus".

When using any add-on messenger program stick to the tried and tested progs. Since any fraudster could make a new prog with a password stealer built into it!!!

Why in the world would lop.com have anything against AIMutation? That sounds just plain stupid.

I emailed Tracer asking him to provide something besides rumor, but he never replied. I wish there was some conclusive evidence that this this is evil (or not).

Based on the quality of the website alone, I have to say I thought AIM-Plus looked like it had potential. It did not look like some fly-by-night crap website. I had a decent design, complete with integrated Flash animation and very well put together.

This whole thing just smells funny from both sides.
