Can't Install AIM... Missing Files

When I try to install new versions of AIM, I get three error messages at the end of the installation process, and the installation does not complete. The first is "A required .DLL file, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFC40.DLL, was not found." The next is "Cannot find the file 'C:\PROGRA~1\AIM\AOLOND~1.EXE' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available." The last is "Could not execute the external program C:\PROGRA~1\AIM\AOLOND~1.EXE."

Ok, now I've tried to download these files and it doesn't work. I've tried different versions, and it doesn't work. I've talked to Microsoft as well as AOL and nobody knows how to help me. However, that's because I have Windows 98, and the people at AOL are complete idiots.

So, does anybody know how to fix this?

It could be one of two things. You can try downloading the software from another source, or have you tried that? Secondly, you might have a virus that might be affecting it.

It is never tomorrow.

I did try installing AIM from other sources... but I'll look into the possibility of a virus. Thank you!

I doubt that.

fluff: If there is no DLL in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFC40.DLL, google for MFC40.DLL, download it and put it in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\. Then go to Start -> RUN RegSvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFC40.DLL"

Then reinstall AIM.

It worked! I love you! But now I'm having another problem... when I type a message and press send, it takes like 10 seconds for it to appear on the screen. Any ideas?

Try a search, this has been discussed a few times recently.
