Make sure that AIM is not running in the system tray, and aim.exe is not running on the 'processes' tab of the task manager.
ok a friend of mine is trying to remove teh ad's in his copy of AIM.
He's tried AIM AdHack, nothing. Also sometimes says the AimRes.DLL can't be over written when it's not in use anyways or read-only protected.
He's tried replacing just the DLL, nothing.
We can't figure out what's wrong with this thing
He's running windows XP and has upgraded to the latest AIM.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

try this and after installing, find it, and save it into your AIM directory

(Windows XP): c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
(Windows NT/2000 Pro): c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
(Windows 95/98/Me): c:\windows\hosts
EDIT- Open your notepad and paste the thing from The Dude's thread and when done, click to save and you are all set.
