Buddy icon size

I've gotten my buddy icon down to about 5kb, which is under the 7kb limit. I've also got it below the 50x50 pixel limit. Well, I have a new dilemna.

Everytime I start up AIM, my buddy icon disappears and i''ll need to upload it again. I found out that the size of 5kb was different than the size on disk of 8kb. Well, I went into photoshop and tried to compress it as much as I could, but still the size on disk is 8kb no matter what the other size is.

any suggestions?

Try swapping back and forth between formats, that might allow you to shrink the size. But you also might want to try a diffrent program besides photoshop.

What I had to do with some of my larger, animated icons I have made for friends and other people is to put a dead boarder around the icon itself. Shrink the Icon down to something like 40X40 and fill the boarder area with black. It'll shrink the size quite a bit. Unfortunately it can make some things harder to see, but it's what I've had to resolve to many times before.
