AIM video chat problem

Hi...
I'm new here and can't seem to find an answer to this question anywhere so hopefully you all can help!

I have a Logitech Quickcam 4000 and the newest version of AIM. I am running them on a Windows XP platform. I am trying to video chat with my sister but all I get are blank gray screens (I can't see her even though she sees herself, and my camera doesn't turn on at all). When she invites me to chat she gets an auto response that I am not responding, although I never see an invite (although we can IM just fine without video). When I invite her to chat I just get a "connecting" message that never ends.

I have made sure that my preferences are set correctly, my firewall is down, etc. The camera works on Yahoo Messenger, and in all other ways (it takes video and still pictures, turns on when I ask it, etc). Yahoo Messenger is okay, but we'd prefer AIM for the video quality and the audio.

I tried Logitech's support line, they say it is an AIM problem. I can't find a number to call AIM (not AOL, but AIM). I can't find an answer under AIM's help section.

I have downloaded all the most recent versions of the Logitech software, AIM, and Windows updates. I am so FRUSTRATED! Has anyone else had this issue, or if not, do you know where I could call or write to find an answer? My sister is due to have a baby and lives in Ireland so we really want to be able to use this!

THANK YOU so much if you can help!
Erika

Erika,
Same problem here, top end system, all new drivers, no transmission of video...no solution yet...send me an email and we can update eachother if problem gets resolved on either side.

Same problem - almost..

Hi Guys,

I am having the same problem too, but I also have a firewall in place. Do you guys have the same scenario - firewall on your connection ? I did talk to AOL, as I could not find an AIM support, but that was useless. They said they do not support AIM and I have found no other contact info. Searching the web brings up nothing too. As this forum was about 5 months ago, has anyone come up with a solution yet ? Or did you guys just give up.

Ben

AIM Video

I, too, cannot get AIM video to work on one of my computers. The Logitech camera installs properly and tests properly. But it will not turn on when "video" is clicked on the AIM dialog box, even though other messages say "connected." Has anyone any ideas?

PC AIM to MAC iChat

I'm trying to use a Logitech Orbit on my PC to Video Chat with a MAC iChat using AIM Triton on the PC side. I can get a video chat started from the PC to the Mac BUT no images display - there are just blank frames where images should be and the Audio and Text dialogue works. When attempting to initiate from the MAC side an error message occurs saying that my request was declined. I have no Firewall invoked. I downloaded the latest AIM per Logitech. This is getting ridiculous.

Hey!

okay so i have the same problem! I installed drivers for my Sony PS2 EyeToy and im using that as a webcam. My cousin in NY has an iMac and uses iChat....when i try and connect with AIM it says "Unable to complete the connection with your buddy. This may be due to the configuration of the firewall."... The thing is, i have disabled all firewall and stuff and it still wont work!!! Any suggestions or solutions PLEASE?

I haven't had 100% success with video chat, ever. Some of the possible causes are: each person using a different version of AIM; using a very old version of AIM; cross-chatting between PC & Mac; drivers not installed/incorrect; software firewall on either (or both) persons' computers (zone alarm, norton, mcafee, etc); a hardware file on either (or both) persons' connections such as a router, being on a large network at work/school, or using a wireless connection; some cameras flat-out just don't work.

That being said, you've eliminated some of them, but others could remain. Some software antivirus programs have firewalls that you might not know of, and routers and school networks are tough to battle, even if you set yourself to DMZ on the router.

Sometimes people on the other end don't know what a router is or how their connection is setup, and/or they actually have software firewalls running that they don't know of. It's a huge pain that's had problems since video chat was first implemented into AIM.

Just let it sit and time out while you're waiting for it to connect...then ask the other person to initiate the connection since that often works.
