Serious AIM problem, cant find ANY solution

Hey guys, ive been having this really bad problem wiht aim for about half a year now. I startup the program, and the first time it logs me on, and then after about 30 seconds, i can no longer send or revieve IMs. If i try and log back on, the login window stops at "starting sevices" and then after about 45 seconds, im sent back to the main login window. When my problem first started out, i would be able to send myself IMs to keep the connection alive, but now that i got my new router nothing seems to work. AIM express wont let me stay connected either. Im running through a linksys BEF5R14 and an RCA modem. The modems kinda dated, but i want to know if thats whats casuing the problem before i go out and get a new one. All the other computers in my house are experianceing the same problesm, and ive checked for spyware and viruses with just about every program known to man. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Your Linksys might have a firewall built in that is blocking it. You might try to go in and manage it so it will let AIM though. Or do the same thing on the RCA (if you can), although since it is a modem I wouldn't think it would block stuff. You don't need to buy a new modem (although you might want to since you are going to buy on sometime soon).
