Buddy List Problem
OK, well this is kind of long, but here I go. I have had a screename for about 6 years or so and over the years I have built up quite a big list of buddies. However, today while I was on AIM a box popped up saying "One or more modifications to your Buddy List could not be saved." Then I realized that a few of my buddies had been deleted, because they sent me IMs later and it asked me if I would like to recieve IMs from them. So anyway, I decided to load one of buddy lists, in hope to refresh my buddies. However, I loaded the wrong list and I was left with a mess of a buddy list. So after that I decided that I would delete my current buddy list, and then re-load the buddy list. Well, I did that and all my buddies came up for a second then the box popped up that said "one or more modifications to your buddy list could not be saved." and all the buddies deleted.
I continued to try loading it multiple times, on multiple different computers but they all left me with the same result. After struggling with AIM, I decided to move to AOL to try to individually add my buddies. However, after each buddy I added it would quickly delete them yet again. So in conclusion, I'm currently left with a screename with no buddies, and one that won't allow me to load buddy lists or individually add buddies to it. Can anyone please help?? Thank you. |

I have a few questions for you, maybe this will solve the problem, or get us towards the solution, anyway.
Are you using any plugins for AIM, such as DeadAIM, etc? What version of AIM have you tried this on? If you have the latest version, have you tried downgrading? (I personally prefer AIM 5.5.3595) Can you register another temporary screen name and test it on that account to see if that works, as well? Last edited by Spike; 08-19-2005 at 01:33 AM. |

Yes it allows me to add buddies/load buddy lists on other screenames. Also, I have tried re-installing it and it hasn't helped. I do not have any plugins. And I plan on downgrading to a lower AIM if it continues like this. Thank you so much for the quick reply!

OK, well I attempted to downgrade but the same thing keeps happening. It continues to tell me, "One or more modifications were not saved". Any other ideas as to what this could be? It has been going on for about 6 hours now. Thank you.

I suppose that's the only solution, then, isn't it? I mean, you've tried your screen name on another computer, you've tried different screen names on the same computer, you've downgraded, and your Buddy List is stored on the AIM servers. I think something is blocking you trying to send changes to your buddy list to the server, that's what it is. Got a firewall running?

I had this same problem a few days ago, and I think it was because I was messing around so much with testing various things on multiple screen names. I needed to load up some buddies, so I loaded my buddylist and it added all of them, then gave me that error. I just had to wait it out, and the next day everything was back to normal.
If your other problem is having lost buddies that you've added since your last buddylist backup, go to another computer that you signed on with that screen name most recently. DO NOT sign on that screen name on the other computer, you won't need to do anything at all with AIM for this. If you're on WinXP, go to this location: C:\Documents and Settings\JPB\Application Data\Aim\Jon8RFC The red text are constants and the blue are variables, so adjust them for your setup. The file userinfo.bag contains all screen names that were on your buddy list at the time you last used your screen name on that computer. As long as you put that file in a different place, you'll safely have that buddylist. Open it up into a text editor such as notepad or wordpad and you view them.

I currently have the same problem now, and under the impression that I could've fixed it instead of waiting around, I screwed around with it a lot, ie deleting buddy groups and trying to add screennames (which obviously failed). Does anyone know how long you have to wait before it comes back on? I've been browsing through it and some said a day, 2-3 days, and someone hasn't had it fixed for 6 months?
