CPU usage, and strange spikes when moving chat window

Hi all. I am struggling with Triton, and hate it, and I want to go back to 5.9. I uninstalled it because I noticed, after checking my system resources, that 5.9 was using a solid 10-14% of my cpu usage on both my laptop and my desktop. Both running XP, both with plenty of HP. I also noticed that while moving a chat window, the processor starts cranking away, and the cpu usage goes way up, just by moving the window around the screen! Any thoughts on this, and why 5.9 was using up a solid 10-14% of cpu even when i'm not chatting at all? Triton is more reasonable at 1-3%. Thanks.

Triton has usually been the one famous for being a resource hog.

Have you tried a version other than 5.9?

Make sure you are completely removing AIM:
Run the uninstall from Add/Remove programs, and go to your Program Files directory and delete the AIM directory.

You can try 5.5:

Also run AIM Fix (removes AIM virus's. I doubt this is the problem, but you might as well try):
