Can't send mobile text to Cingular AOL IM

i set up a bunch of mobile users with cell phone numbers in AOL IM, and have been able to send sms text messages to them without a problem

then it stopped. it seemed to stop at the same time I switched to Triton, but when I tried doing the cell-text messaging on another machine that hadn't been upgraded, it didn't work either

I can send text messages to cingular customer from MSN IM, so I don't think its a cingular problem. I used my cell phone as the test phone, and I get text messages all the time, so its not the phone either

I get an auto response that says Your message could not be delivered.

any suggestions?

Cingular only?

Not sure. Most of the people that I want to send to are Cingular customers, and the few that I'm not certain are Cingular might actually be Cingular also

Same problem over here. I use AIM 5.5, so I doubt it is a client issue, but an AIM one. I have VerizonWireless and all of my friends are the same. I would send them a message and they will just never get it. This has just started to happen in the past 2 weeks. Sometimes a few messages will go through, but others will not.

number portability?

I don't have enough information to know if there is a pattern here, but two cell numbers that I can't send IMs to both were originally ATT Wireless numbers that converted to Cingular. I can still send IMs to those numbers that stayed AT&T Wireless

So, forget that Cingular bought AT&T Wireless, and that Cingular sends the bills to everyone. In fact though, original AT&T Wireless customers had the option of converted to Cingular, and getting C rate plans, or staying with AT&T Wireless plans. If you convert you get a different phone, nad even if you keep the same phone number, the email address number for the phone changes.

So, I'm wondering if when I try to send an IM to a customer who switched from their original provider to a new provider, does IM look at the number and try to deliver it to the original provider.

I have had this identical problem with teleflip, which sends text messages to cell. teleflip doesn't work if you've used portability to change providers
