Don't get some Incoming IMs

Sometimes I do not get IMs sent from friends that I am speaking to on AIM. All of a sudden I will just stop seeing IMs and for a prolonged amount of time they can see all my IMs and IM me but I only see my IMs and don't get any of theirs. Does anyone know how to fix this? (this problem arises most often after I direct connect with someone). Any help would be much obliged.

non receiving IMs

I've had this occur and it takes a sign-off sign-on by the sender to reset the connection. Might be related to high traffic (some sort of anti-spim measure), are your buddies sending lots of messages per minute?

Not usually. It will happen after a long IM (for example when a friend sends me a conversation) but will also happen at random points.
