AIM Idle Status

I am trying to figure out if someone has AIM 4.9 or AIM 5.8. I have AIM 5.8 and this person NEVER appears idle on my buddy list, even when he has an away message up overnight, and obviously has not touched his computer and should be IDLE like basically everybody else on my list is....So I'm wondering....does the fact that he is never listed as IDLE have to do with the fact that maybe he has AIM 4.9 or an older version of AIM that does not have an IDLE feature?

There's an option to never show anyone your idle status (look under privacy options). It's a checkbox that says 'allow users to see how long I've been idle'. Your friend most likely has this box unchecked.
