Sorry I'm late. I haven't been keeping up with the AIM scene much in the past 3.5-4 years; I only occasionally hop on BBB or AIM.

No promises, but I'll take a look at the copying text problem.

    Hello.
Sorry if this is a bump, but it appears to be stickied. I just came from Google and I wanted to say thanks for this, I wasn't too sure about using an .exe like the earlier fellow mentioned, but this seems completely fine. I understand but don't like the whole advertising thing with IMs, which I see on both AIM and MSN Live Messager, although because my Miranda IM doesn't seem to be working right I'll end up using officials for now.
    Thanks again for the fix.

you're on your own if you use adaimhack, airtas. go ask the creator of that program on what version to use with AIM 6.8.

I still use the tips Jon8RFC mentioned on latest AIM 6.8 build to block ads which are still effective.

btw, AIM 7.0.11.2 final is out. still requires a minimum of Win2k much like the 6.x versions.

AIM Ad-hack works to remove the ad on AIM 7, but leaves a black space where the ad was. Is there a way to remove that space?

You might give the Professional AIM Client a try. It hasn't been updated in a long time, and doesn't have all the bells and whistles of AIM 7.0, but there are no adverts!

    C:\Program Files\AIM6\services\imApp\veryour_version\content\bl\bl.js
Open up this file in notepad, hit ctrl+f, and search for ("adContainer").collapsed = false;. The first, and only, result is the one you want to change--change collapsed = false to collapsed = true.
Save and close the file. Fire up AIM to see if the ads are gone; if not, do the final step below.
Those will only work with AIM 6.x versions. They do not apply to AIM 7.x versions as those JS files are no longer there.

These are mostly for older versions of AIM6 & Triton:
    C:\Program Files\AIM6\services\imApp\veryour_version\resources\en-US\strings.xml
Open up this file in notepad, hit ctrl+f and search for bl.aimadrotateinterval. Make the four lines look like this:
    <string name="bl.AimAdRotateInterval">0</string>
    <string name="bl.adHeight">0</string>
    <string name="bl.adWidth">0</string>
    <string name="bl.adUrlFormat"></string>
Then search for bl.admagic and remove the numbers to make it look like this:
    <string name="bl.adMagic">0</string>
    Save and close the file.

That's it for the buddy list!
only the strings.xml file is there in AIM versions from 7.0 to 7.2, Jon8RFC.

AIM version 7.3 and higher no longer contain the strings.xml file as I've checked myself. I think now the ads are "embedded" into the latest AIM program, much like it was with AIM version 5.9 and earlier.

So those tips to remove ads in AIM 6.0/7.0 no longer work with AIM 7.3 and greater.
