Can't send folders anymore? version 5.5.3595

When I try to send a folder to someone it says:
Quote:
Your buddy cannot receive transfers of directories (folders). You could create and send a zip archive of the directory before sharing, or share each file in the directory individually.

I'm using version 5.5.3595 and I have uninstalled aim and reinstalled it but the problem is still here. I don't know why its not letting me send a folder because it was the other day / I have been sending folders for years!

I haven't touched any settings and I have checked the preferences, I can not see what is stopping me from sending a folder!? I can only send a single file now which sucks!

Does anyone know whats going on? What has caused this problem?!

AIM was my fav way to transfer files because it let me send folders, exe files and zip files
and if a transfer stopped I could continue it from where it was left off.

I just noticed though that I can send several files symultaneously. this was not possible before. one transfer had to finish before i could start another one.

"Last week AOL found an exploit in directory transfers and disabled the feature across all old versions of AIM, including 3rd party clients like Adium, iChat, Trillian, and Gaim."

Great. Thanks exploit guys for ruining aim for everyone.

Actually AOL didn't find the exploit. They're liars. There's more information about it over at iDefense: AOL AIM and ICQ File Transfer Path-Traversal Vulnerability No full disclosure

I think it's better that AIM/AOL disable file transfers than worry about directory traversal. It would have allowed anyone (you allowed to direct connect) to get any file off of your computer. It's amazing that they fixed this problem as fast as they did (two months according to the above article).

Send a message via AIM to Jon8RFC
It's my understanding that the person receiving files needs to be AIM 6. The exploit supposedly only affects up through version 5.9.3861, but AOL disabled 5.9.6082 and 5.9.6089 as well...I guess as a precaution, or to make it easier for future admins to distinguish version 6 from anything else as far as the vulnerability is concerned.

Make sure that the person you're sending files to is on the latest version of AIM 6; it doesn't appear to require anything recent for the person doing the SENDing. I was able to send directories from 5.5.3599, 5.9.3861, and 5.9.6089 to AIM 6.1.32.1 without a hitch.
