What's Your Job?

What does everyone at the forums do for a living, and what did you want to do when you were a kid?

I am only 15, too young to get a job in Texas. However, I mow a few lawns with my older brother, and that is good money. I also work for my grandparents a few times a week during the summer which is great money. I usually mow their grass, or help clean up their house. Now I am also getting into autosurfers and other online things for a little extra money, and you can get paid a nice amount if you know what you are doing. Soon I will make a link in my sig with a webpage I made which shows all the sites I have been paid, how much, etc.

Anyways, when I grow up I think I really want to be a computer programmer or at least something to do with computers. That would be my ultimate dream job.

Well, as I've been in college for the past 2 years, and am going to University for the next four years, I am only able to have a part time job.

I work as a glamourous Sales Assistant, oh how glitzy.

Well, I'm pretty much done working for the summer. I was a hostess at the five-star resort in my town, and I hated that. Then I was a waitress at Denny's and I decided I wanted to stop working for the rest of the summer.

This past weekend (last weekend in July) I worked in food for the Blues Fest at the ski resort I work at in the winter (Big Boulder). And in a few weeks, I will be working in food again for Camp Jeep/Gavin DeGraw concert at the other ski resort, Jack Frost.

And in May I'm graduating from college. I'm not quite sure what I wanna do with my life yet. Time is running out. Yikes!

Well, I'm too young (14) to have an "official" pay-by-the-week job, but I am a paper boy. I make about $80.00-$100.00 a month, (ussually $100) which is ok. I also walk a neighbor's dog which pays $21.00 a week, 15 Minutes a day which is great. I may work at Wegmans when I get older. My carreer/dream job would be a Marketer/Advertiser. Or anything in the Marketing industry.

I am 20, will be 21 soon and am in almost 3rd Bachelors Degree, and am working as a part time Fitness Instructor, life-gaurd and Recreation Attendant in my college gym. I work 40 hours a week (officially) and more than that sometimes (unofficially).

I...um...*cough* clean up after 4 pig-men at my house to earn my keep. Yep...that's my job. I clean up after them, do the laundry, make sure they take care of themselves, make sure they eat (Which is hard to do with joshua and steven), make sure they sleep (erin and josh), tell kyle to keep his car parts out of the neighbors yard and that everyone gets their rent in on time so josh doesn't freak out...make sure that when josh gets wounded from his martial arts training that he cleans the wounds...which is very difficult...oy. I'm also a buffer and the go between when someone has a problem with someone else...and the psychiatrist...which lately has really been a major thing around here with all the relationship chaos. *tap tap* I should change my major to that of a councellor or psychiatrist...I love doing that...and I'm good at it. Anyway, back on topic...

But no, I don't work officially. I have a problem finding jobs in Rochester. The market here is very customer service based...and...I don't get along with people...*cough* I love helping folks with their problems...but I dont like it when folks have that Holier than thou "You are here to serve me, wench" attitude. And a lot of folks do in rochester. What can I say...we're a very closed off, sterile, cold, medical town. *shrug*

I mean...c'mon, my roomates all work at walmart and one of them had a lady -throw- underwear in his face. And really, that's not an uncommon occurance, esspecially with the boom of foriegn folks...no offense meant, but it puts everyone in the town on edge because they're stupid, and because the town is on edge, they're on edge...and because they're on edge everyone else who wasn't being stupid is on edge... Ugh, I just can't wait until everyone gets comfortable with eachother again.

So, I worked at a TV station a year ago...haven't really done a whole lot since then, but I have been out scouting for data entry jobs, night jobs, dispatcher jobs...basically anything where I don't have customer contact. Oh...and *waves around the letter she got today* My suspension at the college is over and I've been re-accepted! Yay! ... ... ...now I just have to get my Financial Aid in order... *cough* Oy vey.

So Sam, you're like pseudo mom. Taking care of everyone. That was like me and three other girls in high school, when we were managers for the wrestling team. We had to do similar things, mopping and disinfecting the mats before each practice and meet...helping with weigh-ins before each meet...issuing warmups and singlets, washing the nasty things after each meet (ewwwwwwww), but really, it makes you feel good, because you have a bond with the people that you've seen and spent so much time with. I can't believe I didn't become a wrestling manager until my senior year in high school. The bond I had with the Varsity and JV teams was just incredible.

Anyway...Samantha, tisk tisk. What happened with school? I hope you were'nt doing something Sami-like, and it was out of your reach why you left. Haha.

Colin...I've seen many job postings online for places in Texas. Are there any major cities (besides Dallas, Houston, and Austin) or nice suburbs that you would suggest I look in to, to help make my search a little easier? Thank you.


Mr. Oats, marketing is fantastic! I can tell you that as a soon-to-be professional in the marketing field, it is very interesting and exciting. You will go far with a marketing degree. I study communications and marketing, so I have maaaaaaaany options open. If you do something along the lines of communication/marketing/other type of business, you will have no problems when it comes time fr you to graduate college.

i'm like a lot of the rest of you... i'm still in college (for another year) so i have to make do with seasonal jobs. over the summer and winter breaks, i work full-time at... a warehouse. i know, really glamorous. it's not a bad job - i'm a stocker, meaning i keep the shelves full for the pickers to get the merchandise from when there are orders to be sent out. by 9 am, i've broken a sweat from lifting boxes that are easily upwards of 30 pounds each. doesnt sound like a lot, but when you repeat that several hundred times during the day... it's alot. some of the ground sleeves we carry (the metal tube that the flagpole sits in in the ground) are 50 pounds, and those are the small ones. it's heavy physical labor, which i dont mind (it keeps me in shape) and it pays decent. as long as i dont end up doing it for the rest of my life, it's ok.

once i finish college, i'll have a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology. I'm actually not really sure what i'm gonna do with either of those, but they're fairly stable positions to start looking for a career with. hopefully i'd like to start my own business, but i'm not sure in what field, although i'm leaning towards a webdesign firm. of course i'll have to learn a lot more about webdesign than i know right now but i'm willing to do that, as it's something i enjoy.

Yeah, it feels good, but it can be overwhelming at times. Playing pseudo mom for what feels like half of rochester and my roomates as well and not having anyone myself to confide in. But hey *wink* I can take it, right? *grin*

*laughs* Yes, tsk, shame on me. No, actually, strangely enough I got suspended from school because I was working too much! *chuckles* I was working at the TV station and the director went on maternity leave...for 3 months *blink*. So my boss piled on all these extra hours, I had to go and try to make classes on lunch breaks and everything, and at rctc they have a strict attendance policy and I had used up all my sick days when I had jury duty. (Yeah, figure that out, my mom's 50 and she's never been called to jury duty...I turn 19 and I get called, heheh) I actually had all As in my classes...except math...I had a B *cough*, but they had to fail me because of missed attendance. *shrug*


Sounds like one heck of a plan, Tom *wink* Bravo. As far as being a stocker, there's only one other job in a store that's more physically demanding and that's receiving. Especially if you work for one of those big chain stores. My roomate/ex and...wow and my most current ex too, they both work for receiving at walmart...and boy, they always came home sore as hell, even after 3 years of doing it. Nothing like tossing boxes and cases around in a 115 F degree truck all day to keep you in shape.*wink*
