• Google Talk Beta - Google quietly released a big upgrade to Google Talk to a handful of lucky users. The new beta, version 1.0.0.95, includes a music status feature that shows the track you're currently listening to, file transfers and a really slick voice mail that integrates nicely into Gmail. As we noted in the podcast, not everyone got this update, but if you want it, you can get it here now, or learn more about it.
• Yahoo Messenger 8 with Voice has finally been officially released. The new version improves stability and has a great plug-in system that lets software programmers develop their own extensions to the popular IM program. Over 180 extensions are already available.
• Shifter's back with a new Rant-of-the-Week! This week's topic: "Who are you?" Yeah, we get those IMs from people we don't know. If you get'em too, share your thoughts by leaving a reply now.
• Featured Forum Topic: IM Etiquette
  Tigerblade poses the thorny IM etiquette question, should I always reply immediately, or is it ok to treat IM conversations more casually? Where do you weigh in on the matter?

My biggest gripe (and it's really a pretty minute thing) is that the music is disproportionately loud as compared to the regular voice volumes. The voices seem softer than they should be, and then suddenly in comes the loud intro music... not so bad on speakers, it's just a quick knob-turn away. With earbuds... it's a lot harder on the ears.

I hate those stupid 'who are you? are you a bot?' IMs. Uh... you IMd me, you started this, I've tried to convince you I'm not a bot. Don't make me angry... you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

Good discussion of my 'im etiquette' topic too, thanks. It's one of those things I've been kicking around for a bit now, and I'm still interested in what others have to say about it.

As a matter of fact, I have. And, haha, I just realized I used the exact same title as Tigerblade did, without even realizing it or reading his. Oh well.

I agreee with Tigerblade, the music should be softer. I have to turn down my volume when the music comes on for each podcast.
