Mozilla Firebird? Not anymore..read to find out...

Mozilla Firebird evolves into the new Firefox 0.8 release.

Although Internet Explorer is the most globally-compatible browser on the market, there are other browsers available. One of the most noticable ones is Mozilla Firefox 0.8 (Formerly known as Mozilla Firebird), the reason this browser is so noticeable is because it's open-source, does what it says and it's developers listen to it's use. Not to forget it is completely free to download, install and use.

...nothing short of a revelatory experience.

- FORBES

Firefox is an award winning preview of next generation browsing technology from mozilla.org.

Firefox empowers you to accomplish your online activities faster, more safely and efficiently than any other browser, period. Built with Tab browsing, popup blocking and a number of other seamless innovations, Firefox stands out ahead.

Features:

Tabbed-Browsing
Firefox presents a fast and convenient way to browse the web - now you can open several pages in one window in separate browser tabs. Open links in the background while you read a web page, then continue to the links when you're done - pages are available when you need them, making the web feel faster even over slow connections.

Popup Blocking
Popup advertising is one of the most annoying things to hit the web in recent years. Firefox shields you from unwanted popup advertising. It also gives you control to allow certain sites to open popup windows, if required to operate.

Integrated Search
Firefox makes finding things easy. The built in Google bar provides convenient access to the best search engine on the web. Simply click in the Google bar or press Ctrl+K, type some words and press Enter.

Efficient Navigation
Details are important to us. Sometimes it really is easier to navigate with the keyboard. Firefox lets you open links by simply typing some of the text in the link - no mouse necessary.

AutoDownload
Automatically download files to your Desktop or another location with the new AutoDownload feature. Downloading becomes much simpler without windows popping up asking you where to save, etc.

In my opinion this is one of the best browsers out there. I am currently using Internet Explorer, Opera and Firefox as my default browser. As far as speed goes, I haven't really compared Firefox to the other browsers as it is a very new release..maybe in the near future I might post a review/compare article for Internet Explorer, Opera, Avant Browser, MyIE2 and last but not least, Firefox.

Auto download? Well do you know if it displays the progress in a window or something? I would much like to know how much longer the download will take, rather than having it run in the background. Also, has anyone that has used this found a noticeable change in browser speed? (Better or Worse)

The browser now has an installer, no more sticking the program in a folder and making a shortcut. Dont know if thats for better or worse.

I also like one of their catchy titles: "The Browser, Reloaded" =)

When a window pops-up asking you to download something, does it automatically say yes? I sure hope not because there are quite a few sites that use those pop-ups and it puts adware on your computer.

I just had to add. FireFox is a brilliant browser. Just as an example, here are some screenys from the BBB web chat compared to IE 6.

Internet Explorer 6:

FireFox:

I'm completely in love with it. Highly recommended!

Your download questions and fears are unwarranted. The new version of Firefox has a customizable download manager. I use it as my primary browser and am very happy with it. I do get occasional crashes, but they are so rare that the benefits of Firefox far outweigh the crashes. Of course some sites refuse to accept any browser other than IE. For those rare instances, there is an extension for Firefox that will open up IE to the site you are trying to visit.

Freddie- is this what you are looking for? (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/buttons.html)

Anyway, I like the new Mozilla Firefox, it is really an awesome browser but I am not sure if I will be using it often over MSIE. I will have to play around with it.

Firefox is great! They've even kept my favorite little shortcuts from IE, like typing "bigblueball" and pressing CTRL-Enter, and favicon support.

It's got a very nice, clean interface. It's the first alternative to IE that I actually think I could prefer.

If your talking about the FF icons in the windows, it seems to come default in XP. I have tried it on 98, and it seems to display the default Windows icon. Not sure why it really does that.

I am talking about the icons you put in ...chrome/icons/default. I really don't know about XP. I only have that on my laptop and I rarely go online with it.
