Do people that use im's have dial-up connections? I can't imagine leaving a messenger on using dial-up because of the cost. I posted the question here because this is an im board and I assumed everyone had broadband. Just curious. David points out a good use for it. I don't know how much time I spent at Windows update the last time I reinstalled...

No, not everyone is fortunate enough to have broadband, you would be surprised at the number of users still using Dail-up. Dail-up users would not leave there IM clients on 24/7, most just use IM for chatting with friends, then sign out and disconnect when finished. You won't find to many Dial-Up users idling.
