Backup utility in windows xp

I have a hewlett Packard with windows xp home edition on it. When I bought my computer it was already installed on my computer. I was wondering if anyone would know how I could get the back up utility they are talking about in this article http://windows.about.com/library/weekly/aa020203a.htm . I went to start, run and typed in the file name but I got an error message . If you need a screen shot of the error message I will be happy to ablige you with one.

Any help I receive in this matter would be greatly appreciated .

Thank you,

Wildatheart

You need the Windows XP CD to install the NTBackup utility.

Somewhere at the Microsoft website, it tells you that to add the Backup Utility you need the original CD. I don't have the Recovery CD that came with my computer so I guess I'm out of luck. Of course, I could always go buy Windows XP, but I'm not going to waste $300 on something I already have.

Is one labeled 'Operating System CD' or 'Windows XP'?

No, they all say System Recovery , Win xp Home Edition disc 1 and so on and so forth.

Guess that doesn't help much, I'm sorry for wasting your time.

I have an HP laptop...one of the CDs is XP Home Edition SP1a...you need that one. It may be the first recovery disk or be seperate. I do not exactly remember, but you have one like I do.

Still not seeing any that has sp1 on it David, so it must be a seperate cd that came with your computer. Mine I bought from a store and I had to call the company and order the cd's because windows xp came pre-installed on my computer ( btw, I think that is ridiculous that they don't include the cd's with the purchase , its like they never expect your system to crash or anyone to break into your system) but anyhoo... I appreciate your help ..

Thank you for trying ,

Wildatheart
