new service pack?

Get Ready for Windows XP Service Pack 2

Microsoft has announced this month for Windows XP Service Pack 2 to go Gold. Microsoft have set the release date for 4th August 2004 but some users may not get their hands on it until another 3 weeks time. This version of Service Pack 2 is to fix a number of security fixes and patches. the Popup Blocker has also had a huge update along with a number of other certain features so Tomorrow should be the expected date of release. If you have any old service packs installed please remove them from your system before installing the new Windows XP SP2 Final !

I think it is true that Microsoft plans to release SP2 sometime this August, but as soon as the 4th sounds a lil too soon. I thought it was closer to mid-August. Because I think it was supposed to be released in mid-July, but got delayed. (I read an article on tweakxp which said that). But yeah, it shouldn't be long now.

Yes, according to Microsoft's site it would be released this month:
Quote:
quote:Aug 2, 2004: Windows XP SP 2 Release Candidate 2 (RC2) Removed from the Web http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../winxpsp2.mspx

This signifies the end of the pre-release distribution program in anticipation of the final release of SP2. Windows XP SP2 remains on schedule for release this month.

Right....the Windows Update have already changed to version 5. According to sources..Microsoft have pushed back to release date of RTW (release to web)...but it's Windows Update release still stands at August 25th. So on August 25th, anyone running XP will recive this new service pack in their windows Update V5. Anything else...RTW, RTM, Network install etc have been pushed back until a further date.

For those of you who are wondering how the IT SP2 in the link spiderman provided is diffrent from the "Single Computer" download that is coming soon I will state my guess since I was a SP2 beta tester.

When beta testing they, for a time, released a "XP SP2 Express" installer that searched your computer for files and then downloaded only files it needed for SP2 using a download manager. It will probably be the same thing.

I got it from Neowin.net and I'm loving of what they did to Internet Explorer!!! It has its own poop-up blocker that WORKS!!! And it also has an Add-on Manager. I reccommend it to everyone!
