Apple is going to announce a new 6GB Ipod Mini w/ color screen =)

EDIT - It has been released. It has a 6GB Hard Drive and a new 18 hour battery life (no color screen). It will remain at 250$, while the 4GB Ipod will be 200$

It looks like a new Ipod Mini is going to be announced with the following new features:

- New Seagate 5GB or 6GB HardDrive
- Full-color active-matrix TFT screen with 176x132 resolution
- RunOn technology (complete skip protection)

Quote:
Within the next two weeks Apple will announce an updated iPod mini with a color screen and higher capacity hard drive, Think Secret has learned. Highly reliable sources have confirmed that the next iPod mini will gain a full-color active-matrix TFT screen while the form factor will remain largely unchanged. The color screen will be able to display colors clearly and brightly regardless of ambient lighting, even outdoors in direct sunlight.

The new screen will be about the same size as the current iPod mini display and will sport a 176x132 resolution. Apple's move to a color screen on the iPod mini is part of the company's shift away from monochrome displays, sources said. Standard iPods will also gain color screens across the board with the next update later this year. The move toward color screens is part of an effort by Apple to keep its industry-leading iPod looking new and fresh.

Personally, this doesn't surpise me at all. I went down with some kids from my high school computer class to check out CalState Fullerton (college) and literally 1 in 5 people had an Ipod. It was almost scary. And if its THAT populer, then updates like this are needed.

Pricing on the new iPod mini will remain the same at $249.
Awesome. I'm glad I didn't get one a couple weeks ago.

I have extremely bad timing. I bought myself an Ipod Shuffle but found that it lacked enough space for all my music and so I sold it on Ebay and bought a new Ipod Mini for 200$ off Ebay 3 days ago. Now I am going to have to sell that also and get this.

I keep getting turned off by ipods battery. Two friends of mine own a mini and both have to send it back to apple to replace a battery. That gets on my nerves, you have to send it to them so they can do something you should be able to do yourself. Oh well I'm sure that's just a minor annoyance for many others.

The thing I’d like to know is if it will have the option for a custom start-up picture or other things to take advantage of the color screen. If not I don't see much of a use for the color screen, the extra memory on the other hand is a good thing. As with MiamiGuy the battery worries me also.

That is because Google attempts to provide ad's that relate to what your reading. So if your reading about an Ipod and Google scans the page and finds the word Ipod over and over, it places Ipod ad's on the page

I read about the new ipod mini's and various news sources are mentioning how they expanded the battery life:

The battery life of the second-generation mini models has also been improved. The playback time on a single charge is now 18 hours, up from the eight hours of previous models.

By the way I just recently found this and for those who don't want to send the battery back to Apple to be replaced can try this
Replace your iPod's battery

I was skeptical of opening the case up oneself but now I'm sure it's pretty easy by looking at the video. I'll probably get this for my bday next month instead of what I was thinking of before.
