Ad-aware's exe protection analysis

=) Hi everyone,

I have been analyzing the protection that ad-aware.exe seems to be using, it looks like they might be using a new version of Aspack or PECompact. Whoever knows how to unpack/decrypt these types of protection, please help me out..as I do not want to consume more time analyzing this. It would be great if somebody have links to any programs that can do this or if you know how then please specify the technical details.

Analyzing these kinds of protections is for my anti-virus program. If a virus/worm is encrypted using these kind of protection, it would be harder for an anti-virus to detect.

Thank You

QT

Why exactly do you want to unpack adaware? Protools has all sorts of unpackers and the likes, but nothing beats good old procdump..

Hi EEDOK,

It's not about unpacking ad-aware, it is about unpacking the protection that ad-aware is currently using. Ad-aware is just an example. Thanks for the link EEDOK, I will check out procdump

As for the other already-made unpackers, they are all pretty much obsolete =P
