Outlook & Gmail POP3 account

Ok my computer crashed awhile back and I am just now reconfiguring Outlook (2003, not express), but I can't get it to work with Gmail's POP3 server. I followed the directions on this page, and when I hit the test button, everything works but POP3, it keeps asking for my password.

Here is my settings.
Here is what it does when I test.
Here is the error I get when I hit cancel.

well, from what i can see, your settings match mine perfectly. the only thing i can think of is that you probably have your password spelled incorrectly, or maybe you had the capslock on when you typed it in. try just re-typing your password (carefully) into the box and try it again. i had the same problem with one of the other accounts i check through Outlook, and it turned out to be that simple.

I'll try it but Caps lock doesnt apply, its all numbers.

[EDIT] Nope, still the same problem, I retyped my password in both fields, numorous times. Want to take a look at the other part, too?

another simple idea might be to just check to be sure there aren't any unnecessary spaces after any of the fields, like make sure that it's 'pop.gmail.com' instead of 'pop.gmail.com ' (note the extra space)... another common error, and easy to miss, especially if you copy/paste the info in.

also, make sure you have gmail set to allow pop access... as for "the other part" there aren't any other screens or fields that would make a difference other than what you already displayed... i'm curious what the problem is if these ideas dont work.

Ok I'll try that, and by "other part" I was implying the other question I asked in the first post, I put a line dividing it, it might have looked like my signature or something, the Opera problem. Oddly it was in the title, now its gone... (who did it)
Maybe I'll just make it another thread.

Ok I retyped the fields and I even added @gmail.com to my username, for the login details. Still the same problem!

you dont need to have @gmail.com in your username, that should just be the first part.

what about my other suggestion of checking the gmail pop settings?

it's odd, it's finding the incoming server just fine, but not letting you log on. which means it doesnt appear to be a firewall problem or ports being blocked. like i said, the settings in those screenshots match the settings i have, exactly.

I enabled POP3 in gmail, I've had it enabled. This is really going to make me insane!
