How do I download videos off YouTube?

how do i Download Videos Off YouTube ? please.and thank your awesome guys on here your awesome ppl and your verry polite helping ppl with pc probs and you nice guys.you never ingnore anyone just like to say thank you again.ok i need two just get a short 5min rocky montage, music video used in all 6 rocky films from youtube its a cool music video and love playing it over and over but id like it for windows media player i watch this clip all the time but im scared in case one day i go on youtube and its been removed so this is how i want just for my player and i can use repeat .so i what two download it off youtube but i dont know how can someone please help me, if you know how to download of youtube.plus on youtube videos you can not use a repeat option on thare youtube player ,so its alot better if i can get it off youtube ,and just play it on my windows media player only.thank you guys ,when i post things and ppl help i allways like two do a favor in return.thanks nick.

well... the easiest answer to your question is...

you can't. YouTube has its videos in flash format, not a standard video file like WMP can play. So... sorry. Out of luck, unfortunately.

My favorite app, for YEARS, in this situation has always been Swiff Player:

For Firefox, the file will be located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\profile.folder\Cache

For IE, the file will probably be located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\JPB\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\folder
you might have to hunt through a few folders for IE files...you also won't be able to browse to content.ie5--I usually just browse to the "temporary internet files" folder and then append content.ie5 to the address bar up top. In IE, the file names seem to be prepended with get_video, so you could search for that string and you should find a bunch.

Anyways, just snag the file and play it! If it doesn't already have the extension, then append .swf to it and you'll be good to go. The file you want to pick out will probably be at least a few megs in filesize. If you're new to hunting for arbitrary files, it might be easier if you delete all temporary internet files first, and then just go straight to youtube and view the video you want...then watch the folder for a file that increases in size (as it's downloading) and that'll likely be the one! You can also sort by date and have the newest at the top, but if you want to grab older files, you'll have to learn how to distinguish the right files by finding a few first.


edit: ok...I actually tried to do it with a youtube video and the files wouldn't play for me, but Windows hasn't been acting up to par lately for me, so maybe it'll work for you. Just wanted to let you know that so that you don't get your hopes up. Maybe the files are encoded with something odd...I'm not sure yet. I'll keep messing around and double-post if I find anything useful.

Copy the link for the video you want and paste into KeepVid. It will let you download the video as an FLV file. Then all you need is an FLV Player.

Excellent, that's the key! +reputation points for darkeyes

Flash is just for the player, but the medium is FLV. If you have the K-Lite codec pack installed, like millions do, then you're good-to-go with playing the file.

but apparently it is in fact possible. i never knew.... not a big YouTuber.

If I like a youtube video I simply add it to my internet favourites and play it as much as I like (as I do get bored with them after a while). To me that has always been the easy option. Anything for an easy life!

you can also save the vid off Youtube onto your PC and use a converter and convert if from what format it is to whatever you want it to be (.mpg, .avi, .wma)
