Connect to the Internet using mobile as a modem

Experts,
I'm trying to connect to the internet using my Nokia(TM) N95 as a modem. I managed to create the connection & connect the phone to the PC over USB. I got connected but after a while and for an unknown reason, i get disconnected. I tried to reduce the Maximum speed (bps) in modem configuration to a reduced rate, but I still get disconnected.
The ISP doesn't require a user name nor a password & the phone number is *99#.
I checked the modem properties on Computer Management and found "Extra initializaion Command" set to:
+CGDCONT=,,"wap"
and I don't know what the hell does that mean

Here is the modem log if needed

I can't say for sure with your phone, but I use a Samsung Blackjack as a modem via USB when I travel. Because I have email push, if a notification (or text msg or phone call) comes thru it will disconnect me from internet.

Might be worth checking. I have to disable the extra services while I'm connected. But obviously, you can't stop phone calls. Hope this helps in some small way.

When I connect my Blackberry to teether (PAM) I sometimes get bumped off if another modem tries to connect. Do you actively use any other modems or software that connects using a modem (such as Modem Spy)?

Me too! Do you use the Internet Connection Sharing application on the phone, or do you switch it into modem mode and use DUN on the computer? And are you on a tethering plan?

patndoris,
Well, in my case I divert all the calls to another phone which seems to work and i dont have any other notifications.

Stigmata,
Good idea, updating in progress...

detn8r,
NO!

David,
I use the phone as a modem and then dial up.

1. How can I use "internet connection sharing" using my mobile?
2. What's "tethering plan"?

Thanks all for the replies...

Although cellular companies and rate plans are much different here in North America, you don't want something like this to happen to you. Data charges on a cellular phone can be pretty expensive

Thanks...

hey all, looks like the software update fixed this. Although i still get disconnected sometimes, but not as often as before the software update. I think im okay with this fix for now.

Thanks for help,
