Using speakers and headphones

Hi

Please can someone advise me as to how to use both speakers and headphones in Windows Vista. When I used Windows XP, I would use my speakers out loud - when I wanted to use my headphones, I would plug them in and they would cut the speakers out so that only the headphones worked.

Now in Windows Vista, I cannot do this. I have the speakers on with the headphones plugged in. When I need to use only the headphones, I have to go into the sound options and make the one I want to use the default.

Please can someone help!

Thank you.
