I need XP service pack 1 back

I had to install again Windows service pack 2 to be able to install AVG Anti Virus...well everytime I try to install service pack 2 it will also install my old email from 4 years ago when I had a different email addy. So everythime I just do system restore and get it off my computer and my regular email will come back. This time I cannot get my regular email back and system restore will not help this time. It has kept my old email in my outlook express. I have uninstalled AVG and XP service pack 2 but still the old email hangs on. I try to go play games and I keep getting a message that internet exployer has to shut down. I think I have really messed up my computer this time. Any HELP???? Mistyfog

I'm not sure I fully understand why you'd be having trouble with your email coming back from years past. But I can give you a link for XP Service Pack 1A.

Please use this link to download and install SP1A for XP.

If you are not instructed to do so after the installation of SP1A, you must reboot after the installation of this service pack.

Service Pack installation shouldn't have any effect on your e-mail. Are you maybe referring to Outlook or Outlook Express saving settings from an earlier restore point on your computer? The more detail you give us the better we can try to help.

As I was going down the stair, I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today; I wish I wish he'd go away.

Can you please go to Start / My Computer. Right-click on My Computer and choose properties. It will clearly show you if you have any Service Pack currently installed and if so the number. Post back and tell me what it says.

Doris I did what you said. It says SP2 installed even though I had gone to add and remove to remove it and also to Revo uninstaller to remove it. Thanks Mistyfog

Hmmm....well you definitely won't be able to install SP1A with SP2 installed. However, I strongle suggest you move to Service Pack 3 for security reasons.

Outlook Express is no longer supported. Perhaps that is why you are having some issues with the service pack upgrades. Is there a reason you have not considered moving to a currently supported program for email?

What else is offered for email? I have had Outlook Express for 7 years and am use to it. I do have a laptop with Vista on it, but I can't seem to get my Outlook email imported to the Vista. Now I have lost it and all the email I had on the XP so am really in the dark about all of this. Now as of today my firewall won't work either. YIKES

There are any number of email options. If you want web based, you can use Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo mail. If you want a desktop client - probably the easiest is Windows Live Mail (which works with a hotmail) but there are certainly any number of other applications out there.

I personally like Gmail. it syncs offline so I'm not stranded if my internet connection is down and I can access it from any web browser. But email preference is a sort of personal choice, you have to find what works for you.

As for the firewall not working, is this the Windows Firewall or some other firewall that you are using? If it's Windows Firewall, I would again suggest updating to SP3 and it will likely fix any problems with that.
