Hello,

I recently got an add request on MSN Messenger that was from a (What I assume was a spam e-mail and add) and ever since then, my display name will not save. (I didn't accept the add, by the way. I hit block and not show on contact list) It reverts to my e-mail address where the name will be: Example "JohnDoe@email.com says..." instead of "John Doe says...." I have went in and changed my display name and hit just "okay" and it worked. Then I signed back on (and every since then, it reverts back to e-mail every time) and it went back to e-mail address for name. So I changed it again, and changed another setting, and hit "Apply" and then "Okay" I signed back out and on and it's back at e-mail as name again. Also, ever since it happened, some of my contact list has their display names as e-mails as well, then some have the names they chose.

Any idea why my name isn't saving? It only started since the spam e-mail add.

In the window that opens, choose either webcam picture or dynamic picture. Both enable you to either snap a picture of yourself (and your loved one if you prefer) or record a short 4-second video. The dynamic display picture on the other hand, allows you to record four other pictures of yourself, coupled to these emoticons: smile, wink, cool, and sad.

Click Done, close the window and you should see your live picture appearing. That's all there is to it. Have fun!

Hey guys, I've been googling this up for some hours (or months, if you count the times I've searched for it before) and I can't find anybody else with my exact issue.

So I'm sorry if anybody else posted or if this is solved already (I'd be quite happy, actually), but at least I searched.

Anyway.
About almost an year ago, when I formatted my hard drive, WLM09 worked fine. One day, it suddently didn't anymore. It connected fine, in the same time as before, everything working fine. And then, some seconds later, either I did something or not, it would just disconnect. No error, no nothing, just a disconnect, without even trying to reconnect. And it would happen over and over again.

I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything in the computer, nor on the firewall, nor on the router. Just nothing.
Other versions worked fine. I had been using MSN 8.5 until today.
So, today, as most of you probably know already, Microsoft forced the update to WLM09, so you can't use MSN anymore.

So I faced the nemesis, and installed WLM09 again. And again, the same problem.

Any solutions?

(tl,rd version: wlm disconnects when I connect, no errors, didn't change anything, already reinstalled, other msn clients work fine, has been happening for months.)

I will post my problem literally :

1 - I accidentally updated to the latest WLM (which is the one with the security patch). I was on 14.0.8064 patched VIA A-patch and integrated with MGS Plus Live.

2 - Since I updated to the latest one, I wanted also to patch that too. I patched it, then I tried to sign in. When I sign in, it just crashes without any error.

3 - I uninstalled it (WLM and MGS Plus Live), then installed the 14.0.8064, but still the problem persists. I then thought that it might be a problem with the files that don't get deleted with the regular installed. I deleted the folders VIA Windows Live Messenger Deep Clean, and Zap messenger. I reinstalled 14.0.8064, and still the same problem.

4 - At that moment, I thought to use an older version. Since older versions don't work anymore, I used the reshack trick (changing the product version to the latest one) to make them work. I managed to enter my hotmail, but the contact list were gone. Then, I tried to delete the contact folders, but still the problem persists.

5 - After trying all of this, I thought that there is actually traces left behind WLM that Zap messenger and the Deep Clean one didn't delete. Thus, I downloaded CC Cleaner and Revo uninstaller to actually delete all of WLM related files (with MGS Plus Live traces). Everything from registry to user files were gone.

6 - I reinstalled WLM 14.0.8064. Unfortunately, the problem didn't go away. At that moment, I became desperate and wanted to see the thoughts of you.

Don't tell me that you should upgrade to the latest one, because my brother has the 14.0.8064 version and it is working perfectly fine.

I am currently using Windows Messenger or Meebo to sign in. The contact list is there and working.
