Monopoly

I'm wondering...Does anyone know hw many versions of Monopoly there actually are? Like, there's the Golf one, and the Simpsons one, and the Lord of the Rings one (I own that one), etc. But I'm curious how many there actually are.

i think there's wayy too many. I stopped by a gift store at a historical attraction and they had: Flight Monopoly, Mustang Monopoly, Ford Monopoly, and make your own monopoly. Now theres also motownopoly. theres a lot so heres the suggestion:spike keeps a list of monopolies in the first post, and we keep adding the ones we've actualyl seen which would then result in how many we know of. otherwise maybe someone could do a google on it?

I found a few sites...
this one (http://www.boardgames.com/boardgames...olygames1.html) says it lists over 70 different versions

and not only do they make a lot of variations on the game, they also make them in lots of languages:
Quote:
quote:Localized versions of the Monopoly game
The Monopoly game has been produced for international markets, with the place names being localised for the following countries/cities:

* Australia
* Brazil: Rio de Janeiro
* China: Hong Kong
* Czech Republic: Prague
* Denmark: Copenhagen
* Egypt: Cairo
* Finland: Helsinki
* France: Paris
* Germany: Munich, Cologne
* Netherlands: every color group is a city; from cheap to expensive: 'our village', Arnhem, Haarlem, Utrecht, Groningen, The Hague, Rotterdam, Amsterdam.
* New Zealand: the two most expensive streets are Queen Street (Auckland) and Lambton Quay (Wellington).
* Norway: Oslo
* Republic of Ireland: Dublin In two versions, Irish Punt and Euro
* South Africa: from cheap to expensive: Durban, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Johannesburg
* Spain: Madrid
* Sweden: Stockholm
* United Kingdom: Birmingham (limited edition)
* United Kingdom: London
* United States: Atlantic City, New York City

list to be completed

Versions have also been produced for some counties in the United Kingdom including:

* Cornwall
* Devon
* Leicestershire
* Yorkshire

In Japan, Monopoly is marketed under the name "jin-sei game", literally meaning "life game"

As I was going down the stair, I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today; I wish I wish he'd go away.

I work for John Deere and we have John Deere 'Opoly. It's an official version of Monopoly and despite the $39.99 price tag, it sells out as fast as we can get them. I've seen a bunch of different versions of Monopoly but don't remember which ones off the top of my head. I believe I've seen college versions, such as Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame. I seem to remember seeing a Cleveland version maybe at the airport or at the mall in Cleveland.

I saw somewhere a Manchester United version of Monopoly. Things like Sir Matt Busby Way are included on it. Those who know Manchester and Manchester United might know what I mean.

"Take me home, United Road!"

yea, all the sites with the list have one the other one doesn't...i found the original monopoly site but there wasn't a list of the monopolies on that site but it has some interesting monopoly records so ill post the link http://www.hasbro.com/monopoly/ I dont think there is a list that exists that has all of them because there is wayy to many. I find it a little absurd tho that you pay 35 dollars for a special one, where you pay about 15 for the original? the only differences are the game board, the money, the game tokens...pretty much everything is changed around a bit but is that a need to charge an extra 20 dollars for it?

This is how marketing works. You can buy Monopoly anywhere, but you can't get all the "special versions" anywhere, thus they are more expensive.

Raining on the parade since 2003.
