Text Subscribe to ####

Hello,

Kinda like those commercials and advertisements that say Text Subscribe or text love to 555-555. How do they set that up? Though my business we are wanting to set something up where you text subscribe to a number and you receive breaking news updates. Is it a script people use, or do you have to do something though cellular companies?

Help would be appreciated

Thanks

-Bronxy

Interesting question. I imagine the ones that charge you must be tied to the phone companies somehow since as far as I know charges appear on your phone bill (someone correct me if I'm wrong about that).

But the ones that don't charge any fees can probably just be setup with some kind of server. The first step would be to setup a method for SMS messages to be routed to the server somehow. At the moment, I can't think of a good way to do that, but some cell phone company seems like a good place to start. Let us know what you find.

I've tried to find this, but I'm not sure what it is called, I just can't really dig up anything. Your best bet might be calling AT&T or Verizon business services and talk to them about it.

Thanks for the responses! I called Verizon today and asked them about this. They said they have nothing to do with it. That I must contact a 3rd party. Now to figure out which 3rd party to contact...

Did you ask for the name of the technology? Or how one can register that type of "special" number? The carrier must sort of have something to do, or some information about it. It'd help if we could just figure out the name of this technology.

Thank you!! That site is exactly what I was looking for.
Verizon said they did charge for this type of service but it was all done through a 3rd party but they couldn't recommend anyone, so not sure how it all works, but the site provided above is what I was looking for.

I totally do appreciate everyone's help!!!!

For reference, the keyword to get started on this type of technology (for others reading this later) is SMS Gateway.
