NEC To Re-Sell Wireless and Wire-line Instant Messaging to Japanese Service Providers

(New York, NY) 19 December, 2002 - NEC Corp. (NEC) (Nasdaq: NIPNY) (FTSE: 6701q.i) (TSE: 6701) today announced it has licensed Odigo�Œs Open Instant Messaging Platform for local installation. Using the Odigo IM Platform, NEC will provide IM solutions to service providers in Japan on an ASP basis and launch a variety of wireless and wire-line instant messaging clients for its
BIGLOBE members. BIGLOBE is NEC�Œs portal site and one of the largest Internet access providers in Japan.

Odigo�Œs Open IM Server is a fully scalable, carrier-grade solution that implements the latest advancements in Instant Messaging and Presence technology. The server�Œs device agnostic, component-based architecture will enable NEC to provide customers the most robust and interoperable IM and Presence services available, for a wide variety of platforms, including
Windows, Java, I-Mode, SMS, WAP, Pocket PC, Blackberry, and Palm.

Additionally, NEC will have access to a rich set of API�Œs and SDK�Œs to tailor their solution to their customer�Œs needs, and state-of-the-art management and monitoring tools to maintain the highest level of service.
