NEC Corp Licenses Odigo Instant Messaging Platform

NEC To Re-Sell Wireless and Wire-line Instant Messaging to Japanese Service Providers



(New York, NY) 19 December, 2002 - NEC Corp. (NEC) (Nasdaq: NIPNY) (FTSE: 6701q.i) (TSE: 6701) today announced it has licensed OdigoŒs Open Instant Messaging Platform for local installation. Using the Odigo IM Platform, NEC will provide IM solutions to service providers in Japan on an ASP basis and launch a variety of wireless and wire-line instant messaging clients for its
BIGLOBE members. BIGLOBE is NECŒs portal site and one of the largest Internet access providers in Japan.

OdigoŒs Open IM Server is a fully scalable, carrier-grade solution that implements the latest advancements in Instant Messaging and Presence technology. The serverŒs device agnostic, component-based architecture will enable NEC to provide customers the most robust and interoperable IM and Presence services available, for a wide variety of platforms, including
Windows, Java, I-Mode, SMS, WAP, Pocket PC, Blackberry, and Palm.



Additionally, NEC will have access to a rich set of APIŒs and SDKŒs to tailor their solution to their customerŒs needs, and state-of-the-art management and monitoring tools to maintain the highest level of service.

NEC will begin offering IM services to companies and end-users in February 2002.
