Jabber Delivers Wireless Instant Messaging on Oracle9i Application Server
Press Release Open Interfaces Seamlessly Extend Instant Messaging Applications to Mobile Devices DENVER, CO - March 21, 2002 - Jabber, Inc., a leading developer of software for extensible instant messaging (IM), whose investors include Webb Interactive Services, Inc. (OTCBB: WEBB) and France Telecom (NYSE: FTE), today announced the availability of Jabber Communications Platform interfaces for Oracle9i Application Server, enabling Jabber to deliver an industry-leading wireless Instant Messaging (IM) system for Oracle customers. The drivers will be downloadable via the Oracle Technology Network, Oracle´s online developer community. Oracle9i Application Server is the only complete software for developing, deploying and managing any Internet application, whether it is accessed via Web, wireless or voice interface. The wireless functionality in Oracle9i Application Server offers personalization, location, messaging and content management features that together form a powerful infrastructure for delivering any type of content and application to any device. Oracle9i Application Server can provide end-users with 24/7, anywhere-anytime access to e-mail, calendar, documents and company directory from any mobile device. "Working with Oracle accelerates our move into the wireless space, allowing us to go to market with Jabber-based solutions that connect the wired Internet with the wireless world," said Frank Cardello, vice president of Business Development at Jabber, Inc. "Jabber has already successfully demonstrated the ability to deliver a highly scalable solution to major corporations and carriers such as the Walt Disney Internet Group and France Telecom. Providing Jabber Communications Platform drivers for the wireless functionality of Oracle9i Application Server seamlessly extends Internet instant messaging applications to mobile devices, a necessity for our mutual customers." "The combination of Jabber and the wireless capabilities of Oracle9i Application Server provides a scalable and robust solution for device independent Instant Messaging," said Jacob Christfort, chief technology officer and vice president of product development for the Mobile Products and Services Division of Oracle. "In addition to working with Jabber to enable Instant Messaging on any device for carriers and enterprises, Oracle is pleased to use this opportunity to further extend our mutual commitment to XML standards and protocols." Jabber is one of the first companies to integrate wireless Instant Messaging using the robust, open APIs (Application Programming Interface) of Oracle9i Application Server, providing a solution for wireless carriers to integrate the IM application into their mobile enterprise portals and deliver messaging content to wireless devices. Jabber messages are XML fragments routed through the Jabber server to Oracle9i Application Server. Because the messages are already XML-based, Oracle9i Application Server can simply deliver them in the markup language of the intended recipient´s mobile device. About Jabber, Inc. Oracle is a registered trademark and Oracle9i is a trademark or registered trademark of Oracle Corporation. |
