Trillian Reconnects With Yahoo
Jeff Hester
October 9, 2003 Good news for Trillian fans. Cerulean Studios today release patches that restore Yahoo connectivity for both their free and Pro versions of Trillian. The new patch was beta tested over the past two weeks by thousands of Trillian Pro 2.0 users, and proved to be a reliable solution to the recent authentication changes implemented by Yahoo. The changes implemented took third-party instant messengers by surprise, and left their users briefly without any alternative but to use Yahoo’s own IM clients to connect to the Yahoo IM network. Yahoo claims that the changes were not specifically designed to thwart third-party IM clients from connecting, but that was the net effect. Most third-party instant messengers do not have formal connectivity agreements with Yahoo, causing some IM users to question the long-term viability of alternative messengers. For now, connectivity is restored. Get the patches at the Cerulean Studios web site: Trillian 0.74, Trillian Pro 1.0, and Trillian Pro 2.0. Related Links
