Cerulean Studios Previews Trillian Astra

Cerulean Studios co-founder Scott Werndorfer has posted a screenshot of the login screen from the next release of Trillian on their developer blog. Code named "Astra," Trillian 4 is currently only available in a very tight controlled beta with fifty testers.

Trillian, of course, is the popular Windows-based multi-network instant messenger that works with AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Jabber/Gooogle Talk and even more IM networks. I've been a Trillian Pro customer for years, and still find it an extremely useful tool. Cerulean Studios has taken some heat from it's users for taking so long to come out with a new version, but it looks like we may finally begin to see the results of their work.

Scott promises to sneak out some tasty nuggets their developer blog, and probably also at the new Trillian Astra website.

Well it's a nice loading screen. I too had been wondering if Trillian was dead and wouldn't see a next release. It's nice to know there will be one. I look forward to it.

I wonder what this will mean for skins...heh if this is a compatability issue I will have to go back and redo a few skins that I was told to do professionally...crap. However, I love the way it all looks so that's a plus.

ooh... very... teasing. the front page for trillianastra.com is... intriguing.

i'm interested to see how this is going to work out. i hope there will be a basic version of this as well as the pro version? i'm still hesitant to pay money for an IM client, even if its as awesome as trillian.

According to the thread link below at CS "Trillian 4 is currently only available in a very tight controlled beta with fifty testers" This is inaccurate. "The Cerulean Studios staff are the only ones testing at the moment"

from what i can make of the developer blog, it looks like they have 50 beta testers *selected* but not actually testing yet. they're waiting until they have a more stable internal build before releasing it to the non-staff testers.

Right. Right now, we're only using Astra internally. There are 50 people scheduled for the first beta round, once we feel it's ready for limited beta. There are a LOT of changes this time, so we want to make sure it's rock-solid. :)
