Google Talk: Would you switch?
With the forthcoming announcement of Google Talk, I thought it would be interesting to see how many people here at BigBlueBall would consider switching to Google's instant messenger.
I'm guessing that based on the success of everything else that Google touches, they'll do o.k. EDIT: Here is an early review with screenshots. Last edited by Jeff; 08-23-2005 at 10:27 PM. |

Google; the sign of quality, If it's Google I'll switch moreover if it supports other IM clients that would also be a great addition to Google Talk.

I would tend to be of the "If it's Google, it's gotta be good!" mindset, but the simple reality of IM networks is that if your friends aren't on the network you are, then it doesnt particularly matter which one you *like*... as much as I dislike AIM, that's what the majority of my friends use. and the other sad reality is that people dislike change, especially when its something they dont have any idea about. most people that aren't particularly computer-savvy will be very reluctant to change over to a messenger, especially one that's so new.
even though it's google, and i have yet to be disappointed by google... it would have to have some degree of interoperability for me to switch from Trillian. As I was going down the stair, I met a man who wasn't there. [ twitter ]He wasn't there again today; I wish I wish he'd go away. |

I will probably like it, but it may get no use from me. At school AIM dominates the computer illterate people there, and Yahoo and MSN are just greek to them. So what comes into play is if it becomes popular, but really popular. Gmail is popular, yet anyone at my school except a few could care less of what Gmail is, or know about it. If no one that I talk to uses it, or even knows about it why would I have it sit in my taskbar taking space up? I hope Trillian releases a plugin for it, as TB said, it will take a lot to get me to switch from Trillian as well.
