Google Talk + AIM, MSN, Yahoo (this looks familiar!)

Hacking Google Talk to Work with AIM, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger is an excerpt from a new book by Michael Miller and Que Publishing.

Does it look familiar to anyone? Sure, it's rewritten in his own words, but he could've at least thrown us some credit.

Is this still vialble?

I am trying to use google talk to chat with gmail chat users and MSN, but I can't get any servers to come up during the service discovery step on Psi. All the posts about this are from 2006, so that makes me wonder if this still works or if there is a better way. I have not found anything on the boards or other searches, but I must have missed something.

Thanks
Jon

flsail, some of the more recent posts on our main discussion about this offer alternate Jabber servers. Try bgmn.net for example.

Hi, I know virtually nothing about IM. I was looking to see if my google talk would talk to MSN. I found the guide on this site, but it's dated 2006 and I was wondering if the process has updated, or if I should just install something else?

BTW, I work in multiple locations and have special software that sets up IE and firefox to the location at that time.

Mikesbytes, the instructions will still work (generally speaking) but I wouldn't recommend that technique personally. It's not a "clean" solution, as there are all sorts of buggy behaviors introduced with your contact lists, online status, etc. It's more of a curiousity than a practical solution.

If you want a practical solution, look to an IM with built-in multi-network support like Digsby.

mikesbytes, you've got to setup your MSN account in Digsby. You do have an MSN/WLM account, right? Once you've done that, Digsby will import your MSN/WLM contacts right in, or you can add new ones directly within Digsby.

Does that answer your question?

OK, so I should get myself an MSN account.

So I'm gathering that I need an account wherever I'm chatting and digsby acts like a shell over the top. I was thinking that you just used one chat toll and it talked to the others, as happens with sending emails.
