Chatting with Skype users within Gmail Talk/Chat gadget
Hello,
I use gmail. I also have a skype account. I have a contact who uses Skype. I would like to instant-message/chat with him while using my gmail account to keep a record of my instant-message chat with my Skype contact. Is it possible to use the chat feature within gmail to instant message with the skype contact? |

Karaka™: Using with Google Talk By default Karaka implements a XEP-0100 compatible XMPP transport, which cannot be accessed from a standard Google Talk client as it does not also support XEP-0100. However, it is possible to run Karaka in ‘Google Talk Mode’ which enables standard Google Talk clients to register Skype accounts and have their Skype contacts show up alongside their Google Talk contacts. Enabling Google Talk Mode Follow the normal installation instruction to install Karaka, and when complete modify $TRUNK/karaka/chat.py so that CLIENT_MODE is set as follows: CLIENT_MODE = "GOOGLETALK" This will: Disable use of XEP-0144 for roster transfer, causing Karaka to send subscription requests instead. Disable XEP-0045 multi-user chats and convert them into single user chats. Register Bot Without XEP-0100 it is not possible to perform registration (account association) in-band. Registrations can either be entered manually into the database, or created by users accessing the register bot. The register bot is included in the distribution and configured though /etc/karaka-register.conf. Users should add the register bot as a contact and then send it commands as normal messages: register skypeaccount skypepassword unregister Success or failure will be reported as messages from the register bot. |
