Shmanky I knew you wouldnt let us down thanx a million *claps*
Thanks. But I would like to point out that the solution was discovered by PlaZ, the owner of ICQ-4U. I simply went around to various forums spamming what we found.

At www.icq-4u.com we've got a simple manual banner removal solution for ICQ Lite 4.0 beta (#1613). Unlike previous banner removals, this one also removes the ad at the top of the contact list!

The solution is thanks to an anonymous post in our forums.

Note: If you are running your ICQ Lite 1613 with the line in your HOSTS file pointing to ICQ-4U, and if you restart your ICQ, we have added a response on ICQ-4U to send the new, modified, ad-free banners.xml, so your client will be banner-free without having to do the file editing yourself.

Really? Well I'm not sure why you are unable to save a line to your HOSTS file; seems pretty straight forward. This is what my file looks like:

Quote:
quote:
Code:
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
80.190.244.8	cb.icq.com
This file is located at different places on different operating system:

Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts

Windows NT/2000 Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Windows XP c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Also, on Windows NT/2000/XP, you need administrator rights to modify files in the \windows directory.

Could somebody let me know if this is right, but where the "Xtraz" button is on the left side of the main ICQ window, flowers seem to be OVER the Xtraz button, which looks odd, as if the Xtraz button was in the background.

Sorry, I can't really imagine what you're saying. Can you put up a screenshot?

Oh yeah; that's a consequence of removing the ad in the contact list. If you notice, the Xtraz button was originally across from the ad, but when the ad is removed, the Xtraz button is moved down to the contact list.
